This ‘miracle’ became a reality for many children last year, thanks to the generosity of wonderful donors like you, who supported our campaign to provide specs for schoolchildren.
The Bureau for the Prevention of Blindness are our foot soldiers in this amazing outreach programme. They take the Bureau’s mobile units to schools in marginalised areas where barriers to eye care are greatest.

The team performs free eye screenings, searching for conditions like glaucoma and cataracts, addressing minor ailments, managing refraction problems, and issuing spectacles when needed. Their goal is to end poverty through better eye health!
When Grade 11 learner Ani* was diagnosed with myopia, it was a turning point in her young life.
Ani had been silently struggling for years. Unable to see clearly, she had fallen behind in class and was becoming increasingly withdrawn. She even avoided her friends because she couldn’t tell their faces apart.
But that all changed when the Bureau visited her school. The instant Ani put on her new spectacles; she left her blurry days behind.
Thanks to the gift of specs, Ani can read her text books and the blackboard with clarity. She caught up with her schoolwork and sailed into Grade 12!
Ani’s confidence continues to blossom.
She’s reconnecting with friends, taking part in sport, and dreaming of a future where she can become an optometrist and help other children the way that the Bureau helped her.
Transformations like these are only possible thanks to the support of our donor family!
Thank you for turning blurry days into brighter tomorrows and ensuring that children don’t live in the shadow of poor vision.
*Ani is not her real name.
