Along with their precious vision, the surgeries restored their independence and the ability to engage fully with their families and communities.
The joy was palpable as the elderly folk burst into song, prayer, and celebration.
“It is always fulfilling seeing the joy on a patient’s face when they can see clearly again. It’s truly something special,” said Angelina Khupe, manager of the SANCB’s Bureau for the Prevention of Blindness.
The Bureau could not perform these incredible cataract outreach programmes without donor support.
